Quick differences between Good, Better and Certified Kits.
Hear from our founder the main difference between three of our most popular kits.
Polyaspartics or Traditional Epoxy
Why are Polyaspartics the best finish coat?
Polyaspartic floor coatings and 100% solids epoxy floor coatings are both popular options for protective and decorative floor finishes, particularly in commercial, industrial, and residential applications.
Each has its specific strengths and ideal use cases. Typically 100% solids epoxy is a better base coat and Polyaspartics are a better top coat. Here are the key benefits of choosing polyaspartic floor coatings over 100% solids epoxy coatings for a finish coat
UV Stability
⭐️ Polyaspartic floor coatings are highly UV resistant, which means they won’t yellow or degrade significantly when exposed to sunlight. This makes them an excellent choice for areas that
receive a lot of natural light.
🚩 Traditional epoxy coatings are prone to yellowing when exposed to UV light, which can be a disadvantage in sun-exposed areas.
Abrasion Resistance
⭐️ Polyaspartic Coatings offer superior abrasion resistance compared to epoxies. This makes them ideal for high-traffic areas or floors that need to withstand heavy use. This means they will maintain a higher gloss level and reduce noticeable scratching better than 100% solids epoxy.
🚩 100% Solids Epoxy: While still durable, epoxy may not perform as well under extreme wear and tear compared to polyaspartic coatings.
Aesthetic and Design Flexibility
⭐️ Polyaspartic coatings are clear and can be applied over decorative broadcasts or colored base coats without obscuring the design. They also tend to have a higher gloss finish which can enhance the aesthetic appeal of the flooring.
🚩 100% Solids Epoxy: Epoxy also offers good aesthetic flexibility and can incorporate colors and flakes. However, the clarity and gloss levels might be less pronounced than with polyaspartic coatings.
Chemical / Stain Resistance
Both coatings offer good chemical resistance, though the specific
resistance can vary based on the formulation.
Polyaspartic coatings generally provide better protection against a wide range of chemicals, making them suitable for garages, workshops, and industrial settings.
Polyaspartics are more stain resistant than other type of finish coats.
Maintenance
Polyaspartic Coatings are easy to clean and maintain due to their smooth and non-porous surface.
