Quick differences
between Good, Better and Certified Kits.
Hear from our founder the main difference between three of our most popular kits.
Polyaspartics or Traditional Epoxy
Why are Polyaspartics
the best finish coat?
Polyaspartic floor coatings and 100% solids epoxy floor coatings are both popular options for protective and decorative floor finishes, particularly in commercial, industrial, and residential applications.
Each has its specific strengths and ideal use cases. Typically 100% solids epoxy is a better base coat and Polyaspartics are a better top coat. Here are the key benefits of choosing polyaspartic floor coatings over 100% solids epoxy coatings for a finish coat
⭐️ Polyaspartic floor coatings are highly UV resistant, which means they won’t yellow or degrade significantly when exposed to sunlight. This makes them an excellent choice for areas that receive a lot of natural light.
🚩 Traditional epoxy coatings are prone to yellowing when exposed to UV light, which can be a disadvantage in sun-exposed areas.
Abrasion Resistance
⭐️ Polyaspartic Coatings offer superior abrasion resistance compared to epoxies. This makes them ideal for high-traffic areas or floors that need to withstand heavy use. This means they will maintain a higher gloss level and reduce noticeable scratching better than 100% solids epoxy.
🚩 100% Solids Epoxy: While still durable, epoxy may not perform as well under extreme wear and tear compared to polyaspartic coatings.
Aesthetic and Design Flexibility
⭐️ Polyaspartic coatings are clear and can be applied over decorative broadcasts or colored base coats without obscuring the design. They also tend to have a higher gloss finish which can enhance the aesthetic appeal of the flooring.
🚩 100% Solids Epoxy: Epoxy also offers good aesthetic flexibility and can incorporate colors and flakes. However, the clarity and gloss levels might be less pronounced than with polyaspartic coatings.
Chemical / Stain Resistance
Both coatings offer good chemical resistance, though the specific resistance can vary based on the formulation.
Polyaspartic coatings generally provide better protection against a wide range of chemicals, making them suitable for garages, workshops, and industrial settings.
Polyaspartics are more stain resistant than other type of finish coats.
Maintenance
Polyaspartic Coatings are easy to clean and maintain due to their smooth and non-porous surface.
Customer Reviews
Overall rating: 4.2 / 5 from 18 reviews.
Followed the instructions, and also ground down my new slab to ensure proper install. The installation went flawlessly and this is absolutely a superior product to what you can buy in the big box stores. I ordered 2.5 kits to cover my entire garage and am very happy and impressed with the showroom result of the better-plus (nice glossy finish)!
Everything went very smooth. I would love to see the longevity of it, time will tell, but the entire system went down with out a hiccup...the square footage is spot on EXACTLY accurate!
I'm moderately avid DIY'er and have a decent ability. The written instructions were helpful, but the addition of the YouTube videos really helped show exactly what needed to be done. The kit was easier to use than expected and I had no issues spreading and rolling out the products. This is definitely a 2 person job though if you're doing it for the first time. Get the accessory kit, you might be able to get the pieces separately, but for what you're already spending on quality materials it's much easier having everything together.
A few things of note that aren't in the instructions, scrape the floor once the coat dries after spreading the chips and before the top coat. There will be bits that stick up or are uneven that can be removed or sanded down before putting on the final coat. Also, if you tape off parts you don't want the epoxy to cover, make sure it's genuinely clean and free of debris. I didn't and the tape wasn't attached as well as it should have been and some epoxy leaked under and the edge isn't as clean as I would like. This is pure user error though. Finally, there is little correction ability to cover cracks and holes in the concrete. Make sure everything is smooth and filled in otherwise it will show through the epoxy coat. The chips will give some camouflage to imperfections, but large ones can be noticeable.
I had an issue with one of the containers cracking during shipping and the phone support was excellent. They were able to send out a replacement right after so I could complete the project in short order still.
All in all, I would absolutely recommend this to someone that wants to coat their floor. While more than what you'd spend at a big box store, it feels like it's going to last much longer - time will tell if this is true.
Simple to follow instructions, great product, have the feeling that it will last a long time. I would recommend you provide a QR code with a link to an official Youtube video for people to see how it is done: need min 2 people to do it jointly so it does not dry, the shoes with spikes are a must, use the squeegee first and then the roller, etc.. I was lucky my son had already done his first, so this one was a breeze.
I can honestly say that I trace all the imperfections on my garage floor to the fault of the extremely cheap squeegee that was provided in the tool kit. I am really disappointed that for the price I paid for all the chemicals and materials from the company that they would cheapen out on a squeegee. The epoxy material was far too thick and viscous that the provided squeegee was useless for when I applied the base coat - I had to resort to using the paint roller to actually spread the base coat as the squeegee effectively did nothing. The base coat now has uneven sections, and since I was using a paint roller to spread the material I was using a lot of force to do so that the roller handle broke partway through the process making things even tougher. Since the working time of the epoxy was so short it was extremely stressful to be having so many problems due to not being able to have spread the material properly. Prior to applying the polyaspartic coat I went to my local home depot and bought a far stronger squeegee for only $20 and that did all the work that should have been expected with a provided tool from 'PerformanceDIY'. A more suitable squeegee should have been included in your kits, if that means increasing the price of the kit from $30 to $50 then do it.
On a separate topic, it will be helpful for future customers if there was a text section for when someone who has purchased a custom selection of paint chips to note to mix the chips in accordance with their preference of what colors they would like to have more saturation of. I emptied all the bags of paint chips together for blending without consideration and after the fact realized that 1 of my colors really overpowers the other 2 colors.
As for the chemicals they were good - very strong adhesion when tossing paint chips and the polyaspartic provides a good thick shine. Again though, the damn cheap squeegee included caused a lot of uneven imperfections that should have been avoidable otherwise that now I will just have to live with. Would have rated 5 star if it weren't for that being the issue.
This product was very easy to work with and the quality is excellent. The squeegee didn't work as well for us because the garage floor is older and wasn't perfectly level so the roller was key to getting nice even coverage. We are very happy with the finished result and the final clear coat is thick and feels extremely durable.
