Counter-Coat Certified Full Flake Kit Installation Instructions

Counter-Coat Certified Full Flake Kit Installation Instructions

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

When the entire order arrives, inspect all items, as well as color(s) of the material(s). From time of delivery, 5 (five) days is allotted to report any issues, shortages, damages, etc. Thoroughly read the Installation Instructions. Performance DIY cannot be held liable if you fail to read and follow these instructions.

Please be advised the color of epoxy resin is the final color and will not lighten or darken when cured.

To achieve color continuity/consistency when purchasing more than 1 kit, batch mixing of all Part A’s is necessary.

Once Part A & Part B are properly mixed, immediately pour in ribbons on the floor (according to instructions). Leaving mixed material in a mixing pail will create an exothermic (quick curing) reaction and the product will no longer be usable.

Please contact us with any questions.

A Message from our President

My name is Craig Jones, President/CEO of PerformanceDIY.com, Inc. I began in the floor coating industry in 1976, and since that time with the help of many world-class chemists, have been improving our patent pending epoxy floor coating kit.

My goal is to provide to our customers, (commercial, industrial, and residential) the most economical, easy to apply, durable, longest lasting do it yourself floor coating kit. I want to change the way high performance floor coating systems are installed.

I did make it easy to install a professional high performance floor coating system (usually left to professionals), as the low-quality water-based epoxy systems offered by other national brands. PerformanceDIY.com is the only Do-ItYourself floor coating kit that can be applied in 3 hours achieving a professional result.

PerformanceDIY.com is also the first to offer an all-inclusive kit with a Limited Lifetime Warranty, 0 VOC, self-leveling, and 100% Solids!

My number one goal has always been honest customer satisfaction and real value.

Thank you for your business,

Craig S. Jones

Temperature Conditions

The ideal temperature range when working with PerformanceDIY.com Counter-Coat is 40 °F-80 °F (4 °C-30 °C). Warmer temperatures will shorten working time and speed up curing process and cooler temperatures will extend working time and slow curing process. Preparation with PerformanceDIY.com counter coat clean and prep solution should not be attempted below 35 °F. High humidity will affect the curing of the coating and may cause varied color throughout the coating. Counter-Coat does not recommend applying where the relative humidity is above 85% maximum.

Note: It is always better to bring the temperature of the room up the day before you start coating. Once you start, you would like the temperature to drop 10 °F-20 °F to avoid any bubbling.

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS: PREPARATION

Recommended but not necessary to work in a ventilated room; (do not work near heat or flames if using Poly 300 Polyaspartic clear). Clean surfaces; remove any debris from countertop areas.

____Step 2:

Sand the surface with the supplied sanding paper. Wipe clean with rags to remove any sanding dust and debris. Fill fine cracks with PerformanceDIY.com caulk.

____Step 3:

Prime Coat Mix Part “A” in its original container for 2 minutes. Pour all of Part “B” into large clean container. Pour all of Part “A” into same container. Mix thoroughly for 3 minutes with the mixing tool for 3 minutes, paying close attention to all around the buckets sides and rising and lowering the mixing tool.

____Step 4:

Using the supplied squeegee spread the base coating material evenly over the counter to area, clean the squeegee well with a rag and xylene, as you will need it in step 9: DO NOT SOAK IN XYLENE THIS WILL DESTROY THE SQUEEGEE.

____Step 5:

Using the supplied 4” roller, roll out the base coating material evenly over the counter to area and the outer perimeter.

____Step 6:

After the entire base coat has been applied evenly, Apply the decorative flake chips conservatively, assuring even full coverage of flake chips. Two coats may be necessary on vertical surfaces.

____Step 7:

After 24 hrs. the excess flakes can be removed, and remaining flakes sanded to remove any high areas or excessive flake to create a smooth surface. Lightly sand the surface with supplied sanding block. Clean surface after sanding. Clear Epoxy Application

____Step 8:

Mix Part “A” in its original container for 2 minutes. Pour all of Part “B” into large clean container. Pour all of Part “A” into same container. Recommendations and Helpful Tips

• Paint in a well-ventilated room.

• Recommended room temperature @70˚ F.

• Place newspaper around the cabinet base and cover the cabinet to prevent any spillage from getting on the cabinet bases.

• Have plenty of rags for cleanup.

• Use Xylol or MEK for cleanup.

• Use in a well-lit area.

• Allow to dry for 3 days before use.

• Wipe the lower edge of counter during the coating process to prevent drips from forming, this may be needed done several times.

When applying multiple coats, you should wait 10-24 hours to apply the second coat. If you wait more than 24 hours, you must rough the surface with 120-grit sandpaper prior to coating and you must wipe the floor with denatured alcohol prior to coating.

When back-rolling a second time for color or clear coats, only back-roll one time approximately 10 minutes after first application to avoid inducing bubbles into the coating.

Coating problems during application

If bubbles appear during coating, using a small torch wave the flame over the coating without isolating the flame.

Disposal

Remaining unmixed counter coat product can be mixed into the mixing bucket for 3 minutes and let harden. Dispose of in accordance with local, state, and federal laws.

Seeding of Epoxy

Seeding of Epoxy (Part A) is possible due to colder temperatures in transit. Two-component epoxy resin systems should be stored between 65 °F and 90 °F. Refrigeration will not enhance the storage stability of two-component epoxy resin systems. Most systems are naturally susceptible to crystallization, especially at temperatures below the recommended storage temperatures.

Q: How do I know if my product is seeded?

A: The clear/colored epoxy (Part A) will appear gritty, seedy, chunky near the bottom of the container.

Q: How can I fix this?

A: Submerge Part A bucket with lid on, into 122 °F water and stir periodically. (Depending on the size of the container of epoxy, it can take longer to reverse to a usable liquid). Do not allow water to get into the Part A.

Coating Over Wood Counter Tops

Wood counters may be coated with PerformanceDIY.com counter coat. Wood areas must be cleaned with a proper detergent and scrubbed if contaminated and all waxes or un-bonding materials removed prior to coating. Sanding the wood to achieve a 100–120 grit profile prior to application of Counter-Coat is only necessary if the wood surface is smoother than a 120 grit profile, otherwise no sanding is required.

Coating Over Metal

Metal surfaces may be coated with PerformanceDIY.com Counter-Coat. Metal surface must be free from rust, cleaned and sanded (100–120 grit) prior to coating.

Can I apply PerformanceDIY.com Counter-Coat over an existing coating?

Counter coat can be coated over existing paints/coatings by simply making sure the existing coatings are cleaned, sanded (80–100 grit) and bonding. All areas that are not bonding must be diamond ground.

What temperatures can I apply PerformanceDIY.com Counter-Coat?

Apply Epoxy-Coat™ at 40 °F–80 °F.

Should I add thinner to the coating when mixing?

No.

If I have fiberglass added to my concrete will PerformanceDIY.com Counter-Coat cover the little hairs that are present after floor preparation?

No. Using a gas torch, burn the hairs from the surface prior to preparation.

What should I do if my Part A resin has been exposed to cold temperatures or has exceeded its shelf life and has crystallization?

Part A resin can in some conditions crystalize. This will not affect the performance of the coating. To remove crystallization simply boil water between 140 °F–170 °F and put the container into the water for 30 minutes. Mix the product in the container before use. If you find there is still crystallization, repeat steps.

When taping when should I pull the tape up?

For ease or removal, remove tape 1 hours after application at 70 °F

Should I patch cracks/holes/mortar joints prior to coating? How would I do this?

PerformanceDIY.com recommends patching all cracks prior to coating. PerformanceDIY.com EPK 1000 patch kits and caulk can be purchased online at www.PerformanceDIY.com.
